Occupational Therapists
Occupational Therapy
Occupational Therapists are qualified allied health professionals who work with children and adolescents in order to assess if and how their underlying difficulties and skills impact their ability to learn and carry out daily living tasks including self-care, school activities and play.
Occupational Therapists use a variety of standardised assessment as well as clinical observations to get a better understanding of a child‘s fine and gross motor skills and handwriting ability as well as sensory processing skills. The outcomes of these assessments will then be analysed in line with your child’s/young person’s overall development and functional difficulties. This will allow us to gain a holistic view of your child’s need for therapeutic intervention. Based on the findings, the therapist will provide recommendations which may include exercise programmes for home and school, sensory diets, advice on changes to home/school routines and/or adaptive strategies with the aim to support you and your child to achieve their potential.
Within Doctor Kate our skilled Occupational Therapist will be able to help with the diagnostic assessment if concerns arise that could be answered by an Occupational Therapist. This will ensure that your child receives a full assessment and that you are not left with more questions than you started with.
If you think that the difficulties that your child has are best addressed primarily by an occupational therapist then you might find it more useful to seek an Occupational Therapy based service rather than a medical assessment service.
